Neighbors Angry At Developer Over Flooding, Too-Big Townhomes

Neighbors living near a new development in Colorado Springs are upset at Today’s Homes, a development company, that’s building the Dublin Terrace Townhomes near Dublin Boulevard and North Powers Boulevard.

They accuse the developer of purposely violating plans approved back in 2006 to try to sell more units.

Bill Sheridan showed KRDO NewsChannel 13 pictures of the view from his back yard. There are three-story townhomes towering over his fence. He said those townhomes were never supposed to be built so high.

He also said the approved plans only allowed for two-story models on that land but accused the developer of putting in three-story townhomes because the two-story homes were not selling.

Other neighbors said they’ve struggled with flooding problems. Melissa Garcia said her basement has flooded because the developer did not put in an appropriate swale.

She said she tried contacting the developer but did not have any luck getting help with her flooding problem.

The Colorado Springs Planning Commission also pointed fingers in a meeting on Thursday. City planners said they were disappointed to see that the developer built “this much out of compliance” with the original plans.

City planners decided to hear the issue again next month. They said they expect the developer to act quickly to right wrongs and to help homeowners immediately with flooding problems.

Today’s Homes has set up a meeting for neighbors next Thursday night. Matthew Ervin, the soon-to-be president, admitted his company made mistakes. He said it plans to fix problems as quickly as possible.

He said the swale will be built properly and that the three-story townhomes will be moved to another area in the development.

Neighbors said they have heard empty promises before, but city planners said they plan to hold the developer accountable.
