Pueblo Mom Warns Drivers
A Pueblo woman fears her children will get hit by a car. Now, she?s taking matters into her hands.
Misty Watkins said cars race by her house on Summit Avenue in Bessemer every day. She holds a sign warning drivers to slow down.
“I’ve had cars hit and animals. I just don’t want one of my children to get hit,” said Watkins.
It?s a simple sign with a simple message, ?Kids play here. Please slow down.? Misty holds her sign for about 8 hours every day.
She believes the reason people speed down Summit Ave. is because of the bridge located right behind her house.
“It’s a midway between here and the baseball field. They [drivers] think it’s a highway, I guess,” said Watkins
For every car that speeds by, there?s a handful that do slow down. Some even agree to sign a petition.
“I have a bunch of people that have stopped and said that they would sign my paper. I’m hoping to get it notarized and get a few speed bumps, get a few signs, something,” said Watkins.
Watkins plans to go to city council to address her concerns.
