Construction On E-470 Starts Friday

Drivers along E-470 in Douglas County this weekend will experience the first in a series of traffic lane shifts as work begins Friday night, April 20, on a six-month, $9.5 million construction project, according to the E-470 Public Highway Authority.

The E-470 Public Highway Authority is reconstructing a 2.5-mile stretch of the tollway between Parker Road and the toll plaza located near Chambers Road.

According to a news release from the E-470 public Highway Authority:

Beginning Friday at 9 p.m., eastbound traffic approaching the E-470 toll plaza will be reduced to two lanes and will shift to the right, traveling through two of the previously closed toll booth lanes near Chambers Road. The speed limit through the toll booth lanes will be reduced to 25 mph. Although tolls will still be in effect, there will be no stopping at toll booths to pay tolls.

The eastbound lane shifts through the toll booth lanes will occur for approximately three weekends, weather permitting ? April 20-22, April 27-29, and May 4-6. The lane shifts will begin each Friday at 9 p.m. and end no later than Monday at 6 a.m.

The contractor, Martin Marietta Materials, Inc., will remove and replace the full depth of pavement on a portion of the original five-mile segment of E-470 that opened in northern Douglas County in 1991.
