Human Remains Found By College Soccer Team

New details coming out about the human remains found in the woods behind an apartment complex in Colorado Springs. Investigators spent much of Saturday afternoon searching the woods for evidence.

It was the Colorado College soccer team who originally found the remains while picking up trash behind the San Juan Villa Apartments. “The neighborhood was going to have lunch for the boys. It was really going to be a festive occasion,” said Colorado College Soccer Coach Horst Richardson.

While cleaning up the area, one of the players found something that he wasn’t expecting. “After lifting a sleeping bag off of a pile of rubble, he discovered the remnants of a body,” said Richardson.

Players dropped their trash collecting bags.”The player who found the remains was obviously devastated and shocked. He called 2 or 3 of his teammates over who were similarly dismayed,” said Richardson. He says he will never forget what he saw Saturday morning.

Colorado Springs Police are still investigating the cause of the death, but Richardson has some of his own theories. “Maybe it was starvation. There was certainly no evidence that immediately observable of any type of confrontation,” said Richardson.

Richardson says the shock of what he and the team saw, will not go away. “This was sort of a warm up in bonding for this weekend’s game. So, I am sure the boys will never forget what happened here today,” said Richardson.

The investigation is still in its early stages. Police spokeswoman, Barbara Miller, said the remains were human and that investigators believe they had been there for a sometime. Officials said they have not yet identified the remains or determined whether it is male or female.
