Police Detain Fugitive, School Lockdown Over

St. Mary’s High School was on lockdown for a short time just before noon on Friday because of police activity nearby.

Police and SWAT units found and detained a fugitive in the 2500 block of E Uintah St. a little after noon.

The fugitive, 34-year-old James Canody, was wanted for an assault that occurred on March 15th. Canody is accused of hitting a woman in the face in the 2400 block of N. Union, breaking her nose.

CSPD Tactical Enforcement Unit (TEU) tried to arrest Canody at the Uintah address but he refused to leave the apartment. Canody eventually exited the apartment and was taken into custody for 2nd degree assault.

Streets around the school have reopened and police are clearing the scene. The school was taken off lockdown after Canody was apprehended.
