Springs Police Make An Arrest In ID Theft Ring

Colorado Springs Police executed two search warrants on Thursday morning in relation to suspects in an identity theft ring.

Police are searching for stolen checks, ID cards, and stolen mail.

Police tell us it’s part of a 7-month investigation into a large identity theft ring.

The first warrant was served at the Sierra Madre Condos on Parkmoor Village Dr. and the second was at a house inn the 1400 block of Howard Ave.

Police arrested two people at the Sierra Madre Condos. One of the suspects is 43-year-old Arthur Ray Hickmon. Police had a warrant for his arrest in relation to check fraud.

Police say they also arrested a female on an unrelated warrant.

During the search of the condos, detectives discovered what appeared to be several sticks of dynamite. The building was evacuated while crews removed the dynamite for safe disposal.

The crime ring is accused of breaking into cars and homes to steal forms of identification.

Lt. Mark Comte with Colorado Springs Police tells us the ring’s main motive was to get money for drugs.

The investigation is actually the aggregate of several investigations over a period of time relating to the theft of mail, check fraud, forgeries, burglaries of homes, businesses and motor vehicles and narcotic related crimes.

The investigations often involved the same group of individuals loosely connected for the purpose of furthering their criminal activities.

The investigation is ongoing and is being conducted in partnership with the US Secret Service, US Post Office and the El Paso County Sheriff’s Department.
