Southeastern Colorado Under Tornado Watch
A severe thunderstorm warning remains in effect for east central Las Animas, southeastern Bent, and northwestern Baca Counties until 6:45 p.m.
Just before 5:45 p.m., the National Weather Service doppler radar indicated a severe thunderstorm capable of producing quarter-sized hail and damaging winds in excess of 60 mph. This storm was located 9 miles northeast of Kim, moving east at 25 mph.
A tornado watch will remain in effect for the warned area until 9 p.m. The NWS says tornadoes can develop quickly from severe thunderstorms.
The NWS has also canceled a tornado warning for the eastern and northeastern Denver area, including the western part of Denver International Airport.
Forecasters say members of the public reported seeing a tornado at about 5 p.m. about 10 miles northeast of Denver. There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries. The warning was canceled after about 30 minutes.
A Denver airport spokeswoman says some arriving and departing flights were delayed by about 15 minutes because of the weather.
