Juvenile Charged For Allegedly Starting House Fire
Colorado Springs fire investigators say a fire that displaced a family on Tuesday was intentionally started by a juvenile.
The fire started in the basement of a home in the 1100 block of Middle Creek Parkway, just east of Voyager Parkway in between North Gate Boulevard and Interquest Parkway.
The home was deemed unlivable for at least several days because of the damage.
CSFD says a juvenile, who is over the age of ten, was charged with 1st degree arson and 4th degree endangerment arson. The damage is estimated to be over $180,000.
According to the Colorado Springs Fire Department, it took crews about 45 minutes to get the fire completely under control because of the heavy smoke within the home.
Kim Collins was home-schooling her four children when they heard the smoke alarms. The family, and their one dog, were able to evacuate the home safely.
