Police: Chase & Shootout Thwarted Armed Robbery

Colorado Springs police arrested 3 men after they reportedly led them on a chase and shootout through the east side of the city Saturday morning.

Travis Broadway, 21, Michael Peyton, 20, and Parice Daily, 23, are all facing Attempted Murder of a Peace Officer, Attempted Aggravated Robbery, and Felony Vehicular Eluding charges. Police said more charges are pending.

Police said the chase began when police were called to investigate a suspicious car at the Radio Shack in the 1800 block of South Academy Boulevard.

When officers arrived on scene, police said the suspects began shooting at them and then fled. The suspects continued to fire at officers while police chased them along Academy and onto Powers Boulevard, investigators said.

Dozens of people witnessed the suspects firing shots at officers and several houses in the area. Police said approximately 20 rounds were fired from the suspects vehicle with four round fired by police officers. No citizens were hurt during the chase though bullets did strike one officer’s car and another car on the road.

The chase ended after the suspects headed west on Constitution Avenue and crashed their car into a neighbor’s yard on Constitution Avenue and Lantana Circle. Police said an officer used his car to hit the suspect’s vehicle.

Police said two suspects were arrested after the crash, a third one fled, but police were able to catch him after a short search. One of the suspects was taken to the hospital with a broken arm as a result of the crash, according to police.

An assault rifle was found at the site of the crash. Police said the trio was attempting to rob a business when they were contacted by officers.

Two Colorado Springs police officers are on routine administrative leave following Saturday’s incident.
