Teen Protects Family From Burglar
A would-be burglar is stopped by a Colorado Springs teen.
It happened in the 3600 block of Bridgewood Lane in Colorado Springs early Sunday morning.
?I was home babysitting my little nieces and nephews cause my auntie had gone to work with my uncle,? said Hernandez.
Hernandez, 15, said his aunt and uncle left the house at 2:00 a.m. to go to work. Five minutes later, Hernandez said he started hearing strange noises in the back yard.
He quickly realized someone was breaking in. Before Hernandez knew it, a man was inside the house, demanding money.
?He took off his glove and took out a knife,? said Hernandez.
?Damn, I?m going to die today,? Hernandez thought to himself. ?I got all scared because that’s the first time I?ve ever been like threatened like that.?
Hernandez said he put up a fight.
?I needed to protect my little nieces and nephews,? said Hernandez.
Hernandez said the intruder tried to stab him, but the knife only cut his shirt. The intruder ran off, jumping over the back yard fence. Hernandez was left with a scratch and did not require medical attention.
The family plans to put a lock on the sliding glass door.
No arrests have been made. The suspect is described as a white man with a slim build, possibly in his thirties. He was last seen wearing a dark sweatshirt and blue jeans.
