St. Mary-Corwin Medical Center Achieves Distinction

The Breast Center, the mammography department at St. Mary-Corwin Medical Center has been designated a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology (ACR). The Breast Center is the only breast imaging facility to hold such distinction south of Colorado Springs.

Peer-review evaluations, conducted in each breast imaging modality by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field, have determined that St. Mary-Corwin’s Breast Center has achieved high practice standards in image quality, personnel qualifications, facility equipment, quality control procedures, and quality assurance programs.

“Achieving ACR designation is a monumental task that requires numerous hours of physician and technologist review of exams and protocols to ensure our patients receive the highest standard of care,” says LaRae Eggleston, Vice President of Business Development. “ACR accreditation is the gold standard in imaging excellence. The dedication and commitment from the entire mammography team is to be commended.”

The Breast Center’s coordinator, Johanna Shearer agrees, “The Breast Imaging Center of Excellence designation is confirmation of the quality work we provide in every aspect of the breast center, from mammograms to biopsies, and that we are giving our patients the highest quality care possible for the earliest possible detection of cancer which ultimately saves lives.”
