April Snow Brings Icy Roads, Cold Temps
A spring storm blew in to southern Colorado, bringing cold temperatures and slick roads.
As usual, some were prepared, others were not.
“It was supposed to be nice because two days ago it was 85 degrees,” said Ricky Gray. “I was in shorts and a tank top sweating outside.”
He left his home without socks, unprepared for the temperature change.
“My ankles are cold,” said Gray, who moved to Fountain from Arizona. “It’s insane. I’m not used to the cold weather.”
“People are always surprised,” said Marlene Nelson, who lives in the Palmer Divide. She had a different take on the spring storm. “It’s not a big deal. You just have to be safe and drive slow.”
That is good advice for driving on slick roads.
The Colorado Department of Transportation did a good job of clearing the snow from I-25 in Monument. However, the highway remained slick because the constant precipitation throughout the day.
Some accidents along Interstate 25 were caused due to drivers driving too fast for the slick road conditions.
