Couple’s Home Vandalized With Offensive Graffiti
A Colorado Springs couple woke up Friday to vandals throwing rocks at their garage door and then found the front of their home covered in offensive graffiti.
The homeowners said the rocks were thrown at around 2 a.m. They asked KRDO NewsChannel 13 to keep their identities hidden. They live in the Newport neighborhood near Rangewood Dr. and Dublin Blvd.
The vandals used red paint to write Satan on the couple’s garage door, KKK on the lawn and a draw swastika on the driveway. There was also a curse word written on their landscaping and a profane picture drawn on their driveway.
The couple is interracial and said it is clear the vandalism is a personal attack.
According to the couple, their neighborhood is quiet and peaceful. They have never been victims of crime or racism until now.
The husband told KRDO NewsChannel 13 that he grew up in the South and has been discriminated against as a young boy. He said he put that behind him and has moved forward, but this latest attack brought some of those painful memories back.
The couple said they do not want to be victimized, but are sharing their story in hopes that an open discussion starts about respect and how to treat others.
Colorado Springs police said they are investigating the vandalism. They interviewed neighbors Friday morning to see if anybody saw anything. If you have any information, call police at 444-7000.
