Soldier, Ex-Soldier Accused Of Hired Murder Plot

Authorities say a soldier and a recently discharged soldier were arrested in Texas after being caught in a “murder-for-hire” scheme by undercover agents acting as members of a Mexican drug cartel. Six people are in custody in this case. Arrests were made in South Carolina, Texas, and Colorado. Federal agents say two Fort Carson soldiers are in the middle of it.

After a 15 month long investigation, Drug Enforcement agents closed in on what they say was a 4-man hit team. A group of people who thought they were working with a mexican drug cartel.

According to a report from the Department of Justice, Lt. Kevin Corley offered to buy guns and provide training to members of a mexican Drug Cartel. The Cartel members, however, were actually undercover D.E.A. agents.

Corley, then travelled to Laredo, Texas to allegedly work out a “murder-for-hire” plan that would pay him $50,000 and cocaine. As part of the deal, he agreed to kill a rival gang leader and retrieve 20 kilograms of cocaine.

Corley is also accused of providing security for 1300 lbs. of pot and 5 kilograms of cocaine travelling from Texas to South Carolina.

Investigators say that Corley then brokered illegal weapons sales in Colorado Springs. He alleged sold three assault rifles with scopes, five ballistic vests, and other equipment to a Cartel member. The Cartel member for the weapons sale, was once again an undercover D.E.A. agent.

After that, agents say Corley went back to Texas along with other members of his security team, including Fort Carson Active Duty Seargent Samuel Walker.

The D.E.A closed in and captured three of the members of the alleged hit team. One of the members, however, Jerome Curley was killed during the arrest.

A Fort Carson spokesperson says that Corley and Walker were originally in the same brigade at Fort Carson. Corley, however, was discharged from the army on March 13th.
