Smiles Despite Battered House

Aaron Edwards and his Mom, Mitzi Roden just can’t get a break. The pair just returned from Florida after getting Florida State Lawmakers and the Governor to agree to a multi-million dollar settlement for Aaron. The 14 year old is in a wheelchair because of a hospital mistake made at birth at a Florida Hospital.

Since returning to Southern Colorado, Aaron and Mitzi’s Canon City home was battered by a huge tree that crashed into it last weekend during a big windstorm. Mitzi told me, “We heard the house shaking and then all of a sudden we heard these three cracking sounds like lightning bolts and then ka-boom, the whole house shook.”

Mitzi told me she heard the sounds, moved Aaron into a different part of the home and then, ” I screamed and looked up. Aaron said Mom, oh my God, the ceiling started falling down. I covered him up and said, Aaron duck your head.”

Despite parts of the ceiling coming down after the tree crashed it into their home, Aaron and Mitzi are both okay. Aaron had his trademark big smile when he told us the story of what happened. Mitzi and Aaron were inside their home when I asked him what he thought of all the mess in his home, now. He told me through his Mom Mitzi, ” How many times can we dodge the reaper?”

Mitzi Roden does have homeowner’s insurance. Now, she’s waiting for answers about if her insurance company will repair or replace their current home. Don’t worry I’ll keep following what happens to Aaron and Mitzi.
