Former Employee Seeks Compensation From Fort Carson

A Security man is in his ninth year of seeking damages and back pay from Fort Carson after injuries in a 2003 accident and his alleged firing in 2008.

Brian Wynne, 51, was a civilian computer programmer on the post. He said he was hurt when a box of tools fell on him. At the time, Wynne said his boss had told him to set up gaming equipment for an event, even though the task was not part of Wynne’s job description.

“Basically, I was told I had to do whatever they told me,” said Wynne.

Wynne said he tried to continue working despite constant pain and difficulty walking, but was fired because he was unable to do his job completely and no similar work could be found for him. Wynne said he lost a promotion and raise that he was promised before the accident.

“I had five different injuries and they’ve addressed just one,” he said.

Currently, Wynne said he takes seven different medications for his condition, finds it difficult to get results from his federal worker’s compensation claim and hasn’t found an attorney willing to represent him in a wrongful termination suit against Fort Carson.

Wynne said he will continue to seek what he deserves, and try to keep his house out of foreclosure. He has a wife and daughter, is disabled and receives a medical pension.

“I want them to give me my position that I should have held; to increase it to the monetary amount it would have been, had I retired at that time; and a letter of apology,” said Wynne.

A Fort Carson spokesman said Wynne was not fired, but cited privacy laws as a reason for being unable to elaborate on the case.

Last week, Anthony Jackson, another former civilian employee, was informed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission that he would get another hearing regarding claims of racial and job discrimination against seven supervisors.
