Mom-Daughter Ripoff

A disturbing ripoff at the most unique of places. A woman and who’s believed to be her daughter grabbed a puppy at an adoption fair in Colorado Springs. This happened at the Pet Smart North store Saturday, March 17th at one p.m..

Aileen Pake is with the San Luis Animal Welfare Society. Her organization runs the adoption fair. Pake told me how this 11 week old husky/dalmation mix was grabbed. Pake said the woman came in to the adoption fair and talked with her about this specific puppy. She wanted to adopt her. Pake told the woman that the dog was too high energy for the family because they owned a seven year old Golden Retriever. Pake said the two dogs wouldn’t fit well together at the home. Pake allowed the woman to walk the dog. She returned with the animal and asked again if she could adopt her. Pake once again told the woman, no.

Sometime after that conversation, surveillance video caught the woman opening the cage to the animal and grabbing it. Pake told me the woman walked the dog out of the store with the little girl. Pake says, “I’m very concerned about the puppy. The video shows her dragging the puppy out of the front door of the store.” I am still waiting for that surveillance from Pet Smart.

This puppy is a husky/dalmation mix. She is white with a black mask over her eyes. She has black ears and few large spots on her body. Her fur is medium length. If you know something about this dog ripoff contact Springs Police at 444-7000 or the San Luis Animal Welfare Society at 719-587-9663.

Aileen Pake says because of this pet theft incident, there will be increased security at the adoption fairs. That extra security includes locked cages and you will have to show your driver’s license when you want to walk an animal before you adopt.
