Body Found Under Manitou Springs Trailer Identified
The El Paso County Coroner’s Office has positively identified the body found under a trailer in Manitou Springs as 32-year-old Crysta Chisholm of Colorado Springs.
On Monday, at about 12:40 p.m., a man called the Manitou Springs Police Department to report finding a body underneath a trailer at 15 El Paso Boulevard in Manitou Springs. When officers arrived, they verified the find was a human body, secured the scene, and contacted the Sheriff’s Office for assistance.
The Coroner has ruled the death as a homicide and the cause and time of death is still under investigation.
Elvin York told KRDO Newschannel 13 that the trailer belongs to his brother, Howard York. Howard was arrested February 10th, after police said he robbed a Colorado Springs’ Papa Murphy’s with a machete.
The manager of the park, Ruby Yoho, confirmed that Howard York was the last to live in the home, but she said police searched the trailer after York was arrested. York has not been named a suspect in this homicide.
Neighbors told us they remember a blood curdling scream on Valentine’s night in the mobile home community. One woman told us, “We heard a girl screaming. Screams you can’t ignore and then screaming for help. By the time neighbors came out of their trailers, they didn’t know which way it came from.”
Shannon Galloway lived next door to Chisholm years ago and called her a lifelong friend of the family.
Galloway said Crysta mostly lived on the streets. She called the 32-year-old a sweet person but troubled by alcohol and drugs. She last saw her friend two or three months ago in good condition following a stint with a homeless assistance group in Manitou Springs.
“She was dressed nicely. She looked nice,” said Galloway. “She looked like she had been sober she looked healthy and clean but also I knew she was going to get back into her old habits.”
Galloway said she’ll pass a phone number she got from Chisholm at their last meeting onto police. She hopes others with information about her last few months will do the same.
Sheriff’s detectives are continuing to investigate this case. If anyone has any information about this case, please contact the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office at 719-390-5555.
