Deputy Injured In Crash On US 24

An El Paso County sheriff’s deputy suffered minor injuries after his motorcycle collided with a car Wednesday afternoon.

The wreck happened about 3 p.m. on westbound U.S. 24 near Judge Orr Road. The deputy, whose name has not been released, was taken to a hospital for treatment.

According to the Colorado State Patrol, the deputy was responding to a brush fire in the area when he was hit by a Toyota Corolla driven by Madonna Burwell, 47.

The Toyota had a broken windshield. No one in the car was hurt.

The Patrol couldn’t confirm a report that smoke from the fire may have affected driving visibility.

Burwell received a court summons for careless driving causing injury.
