Service Academy Graduates Network To Get Hired

A group of local service academy graduates meets weekly to network and help each other find jobs.

Bob Brown is one of the leaders of the group. He said he got the idea from a similar networking group in Denver.

The Pikes Peak Region Service Academy Biznet has been meeting for years, but has recently become a valuable resource for those who have struggled to find work due to deep Department of Defense cuts.

Mike Lee is a member of the networking group. He served in the Air Force for 30 years and retired.

He moved to Colorado Springs for a contract job, but that ended abruptly in September and he has been looking for work ever since.

Lee said the search has been especially hard because Defense Department contract jobs are drying up.

He has followed several leads thanks to fellow group members, but he has not had any luck yet.

However, Lee said the group keeps him in touch with potential job contacts and active in the community.

Brown said that ultimately, staying in service is what most retired military members hope to do in the group.

The networking group meets every Wednesday morning at 7 a.m. at the Pikes Perk Coffee Shop in downtown Colorado Springs. All service academy graduates are welcome.
