Body Discovered Under Manitou Mobile Home
Two men said they discovered a body wrapped in a blanket as they were trying to break down and move a mobile home in Manitou Springs Monday afternoon.
Police were called at about 12:40 p.m to the El Paso Mobile Home Community at 15 El Paso Blvd. near Columbia Rd.
Bob Derge, one of the men who found the body, said he initially thought it was an animal when he saw some hair coming out of the blanket.
“I went around to the other side and saw an ear and some flesh, and I said, ‘Man that’s a body,’ so I ran to the manager and said, ‘Hey, call the cops!'” said Derge.
The man with Derge, Elvin York, told KRDO Newschannel 13 that the trailer belongs to his brother, Howard York. Howard was arrested In February after police said he robbed a Colorado Springs’ Papa Murphy’s with a machete.
“I talked to him to get power of attorney to get permission to get in here and move everything out,” said Elvin.
The manager of the park, Ruby Yoho, confirmed that Howard York was the last to live in the home, but she said police searched the trailer after York was arrested.
Yohu said she’s managed the park for more than thirty years and couldn’t believe what happened Monday.
“It’s mostly older tenants that’s living here,” said Yohu. “This is a shock because we don’t have a lot of crime here.”
An El Paso County Sheriffi’s Office spokesperson said he to release more information on Tuesday.
