Academy: Alcohol Not A Factor In Cadet’s Death

Air Force Academy officials say alcohol wasn’t a factor in the death of a cadet involved in a car crash in December.

Cadet 2nd Class Stephen E. Williams of Philadelphia died after losing control of the car he was driving on Academy Drive. Academy officials say the car jumped a curb, vaulted off the ground, then flew through the air more than 60 feet, and landed in a ravine.

The 10th Security Forces Squadron investigated the crash and asked the Colorado State Patrol helped with reconstruction of the accident. Investigators say it appears speed and driver distraction may have contributed to the accident. Other details weren’t immediately available.

Williams was a manager for the Air Force football team and was a systems engineering management major.
