Update: More Positives For Aaron
14-year-old Aaron Edwards and his mom, Mitzi Roden, from Canon City met with Florida Governor Rick Scott Thursday afternoon. The Governor hasn’t received the bill from state lawmakers that approved a $15 million settlement for Aaron. Lawmakers gave the okay to the bill Wednesday. Governor Scott says once he receives it, he will sign it into law.
Aaron suffered a medical mistake at a Florida hospital at birth 14 years ago. He’s been in a wheelchair ever since. He won a lawsuit against the hospital in 2007. Because of the size of the lawsuit and Florida law, state lawmakers had to approve the money and the Governor would have to sign it into law. Aaron and his Mom have been fighting for the money every year at the Florida State Capitol.
Thursday afternoon, the Governor was all smiles with Aaron and Mitzi. Governor Rick Scott was so taken by the teen that he gave him a special Florida coin. Governor Scott told Aaron that only one hundred of these coins have been minted. The Governor says he normally presents them to special people including presidents of other countries.
Governor Scott says he thought Aaron was very special and deserved one of these coins.
