Pilot Injured After Crash Near Fort Collins

The pilot of a single-engine airplane has been taken to a hospital with minor injuries after crashing near Fort Collins.

The crash happened around 1 p.m. Thursday near Larimer County roads 5 and 40.

Sheriff’s officials say the 69-year-old pilot apparently was trying to land on an unpaved airstrip on his property when he decided at the last minute to make another approach. Sheriff’s officials say the plane hit some trees while trying to gain altitude.

Firefighters were at the scene to control fuel leaking from the plane.
