D-60 School Board: Not Enough Evidence of Improvement

It has cost millions in grant dollars, but School District 60 board members said Thursday afternoon that there is not enough evidence of real progress in the 6 lowest performing schools in the district.

The six schools are: Freed Middle School, Roncalli Middle School, Risley Middle School, Pitts Middle School. Central High School and Spann Elementary. Spann will be closing on unrelated attendance matters come the next school year.

School District 60 will pay a New York based consulting firm named Global Partnership Schools, or GPS, more than $7 million over the course of three years to better school achievement.

Thursday, reps with GPS presented the current second year results that left many board members scratching their heads.

The D-60 spokesperson said board members felt the information was not specific enough.

“The board asked many pointed questions today and global partnership schools has indicated it will provide the data that we all need to be looking at to see where we head next,” said Greg Sinn, the D-60 spokesperson.
