Apple Announces “The New iPad”

In a highly-anticipated event, Apple released its new iPad dubbed just that – “the new iPad.”

Apple’s new CEO, Tim Cook, had big shoes to fill. This was the company’s first iPad launch since its founder, Steve Jobs, passed away. The audience greeted Cook with applause and listened as he announced details about the next-generation device.

Throughout the day at the Mac Superstore in Colorado Springs, customers called asking for details about the new iPad. Employees followed the event on a live blog to help answer customers’ eager questions.

The new iPad will feature an HD-display, 4G-wireless capability, and a better camera than previous models. It promises to be four times faster and to redefine the tablet market – again.

Caleb Simpson, a store customer, perused the iPad displays. He says the launch of a new one is making him wait to buy. “I’m just looking for something faster and just simple. And that’s what’s attracting me to the new iPad,” Simpson said.

The Superstore’s manager, Les Molina, says the new iPad brings an excitement to their store that they last saw with the release of the iPad2. “It was a big burst,” Molina said. “The iPad2 definitely added a lot of sales and a lot of excitement right up-front. I feel like the iPad3 will [do that] even more so than what we saw with the iPad2.”

The release date for the new iPad is set for March 16th, just over a week away. Molina says they do expect people to line up outside the store but that pre-order deliveries will likely away the most anxious customers.

For those who have a previous model, Molina says the Mac Superstore offers a trade-in program. If you have an iPad1 or an iPad2, you can take it to the store and trade it in towards the purchase of the new iPad.

Meanwhile, the cost of an iPad2 will be slashed by $100, making it a serious competitor against other cheaper tablets in the market.
