CSPD: Elderly Woman Hurt, Son Refused To Help

A Springs man has been arrested after police said he refused to care for his elderly mother, leaving her for five days on the floor of their home in her own feces and urine.

Police said the woman was taken by ambulance to Memorial Hospital on January 24 from her home in the 1900 block of Kodiak Dr. The 87-year-old victim, who police consider an At-Risk Adult, reported that she had been left on the floor in her home for at least five days, unable to move or care for herself. Police said she was found by paramedics in sheets soaked in urine and covered in feces, and her 50-year-old son was present in the residence during the time the victim was lying on the floor and did not provide aid or assistance.

Police said medical staff at Memorial determined that the injuries sustained by the victim met the definition of Serious Bodily injury and amounted to a significant risk of death. Police said it was through a lengthy investigation that it was determined the injuries were the result of the negligent care provided by the victim?s son and his failure to call for medical assistance in a timely manner when his mother fell and was unable to move or to aid herself.

An Arrest Warrant was obtained for 50-year-old Dennis Foust alleging the offense of Crimes Against At-Risk Adults. Mr. Foust was booked the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center.
