‘Make My Day Better’ Bill Fails In Colorado Senate

Colorado Senate Democrats rejected a Republican attempt to allow businesses to use deadly force against suspected intruders.

Democrats say the bill goes too far because it allows business owners and employees to use deadly force when they perceive that their property is threatened. The bill failed Monday on a 3-2 party-line vote.

Republicans say people should have the right to protect themselves at work like they do at home and they should be immune from unnecessary prosecutions. Colorado homeowners already have self-defense protections under the state’s “Make My Day” law.

The bill has failed several times before. Republican Sen. Kevin Grantham says the proposal is an important one that his party will continue to bring forward.

Most states have some variation of a self-defense law for either homes or businesses.
