Man Rescued From Burning Home

Firefighters rescue a Colorado City man trapped in a burning home.

Rye fire crews were called to the fire at about 7:40 p.m. Saturday on the 6000 Block of Waco Mish Road.

A firefighter and a sheriff’s deputy arrived on scene first to find Michael Baker, 39, still trapped inside, according to officials.

The two men rushed into the house but were overcome with smoke and had rush back out, a Rye Fire spokesman said.

Firefighters said when more crews arrived they tried going into the house a second time. As crews reached Baker, the ceiling of the home collapsed according to officials, but they were able to make it out safely with Baker.

Officials said Baker was transported to University Hospital in Denver for several injuries. His condition is not known.

The Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office said, Deputy Bruce Cooper, the first deputy on scene was transported to a local hospital, treated for smoke inhalation, and released.

Rye Fire Captain, Jim Beach, estimated the damage to the house at over $150,000. “The Rye fire crew did a phenomenal job last night saving the life of this individual and extinguishing this fire,” said Captain Beech.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
