Hostage-Taker’s Sister Speaks About Standoff
The family of a man shot and killed by police during a hostage situation on Tuesday is speaking out.
Dominic Oliver died on Tuesday. He was shot in the head by police after a standoff at the Urological Associates building on 75 Printers Parkway.
?My brother can?t even have an open casket funeral to let everyone who loved him see his face one more time,? said Oliver?s sister, Tabitha.
A woman told KRDO Newschannel 13 that Oliver was upset over the price of a pit bull puppy she had posted on Craigslist.
Oliver had a gun and held two women hostage, said police.
“My dad was begging and pleading with police to let him speak to my brother. They wouldn’t let him back on the phone with my brother,” said Tabitha.
Tabitha said Oliver?s therapist was also not allowed to speak to him.
?He did have anger problems. He was seeing a therapist for a couple years and was definitely working on it,? she said.
The family doesn’t believe the standoff was just over a dog and thinks there is more to the story.
“She just continued to harass him and he told her to stop contacting him,” said Tabitha.
Oliver’s dad was at the hospital with him when he died on Tuesday, said Tabitha.
“We knew he has been shot. But we didn’t know it was by police,” she said.
Tabitha said her family didn?t find out until Wednesday afternoon when reading an article online.
?My first reaction was anger. He shouldn?t have been shot. He should still be alive. He was a beautiful person and had a heart of gold,? she said.
Tabitha also said he loved children and was expecting his first child.
?The main image that keeps playing in my mind over and over again, is my brother?s expression when he saw my son, he just lit up,? said Tabitha.
She did not say how far along his girlfriend is in the pregnancy.
Oliver?s funeral has not yet been scheduled. His family said there will be a donation fund set up soon.
