Motorcycle Accident Sends Two To Hospital
Colorado Springs police said strong winds and gravel on the street were factors in a motorcycle accident that injured two women Wednesday afternoon.
Police said the crash happened around 2:30 p.m. on northbound Chelton Road between Afternoon Circle and Mallard Drive.
Two females were on the motorcycle, police said, and were both taken to a hospital. Police said the driver suffered a broken arm and internal injuries, while the passenger suffered a serious head injury and internal injuries when she hit a guardrail. Both victims are expected to recover, police said.
Police said witnesses told them the driver lost control of the motorcycle after hitting a gust of wind and driving on loose gravel near a curb. The passenger apparently became scared and tried to jump off the motorcycle, police said, hitting the guardrail.
The driver continued a short distance before the motorcycle hit the guardrail, police said. There was little damage to the motorcycle.
Traffic on northbound Chelton at the accident scene was closed while police investigated. The road reopened to traffic around 5 p.m.
Police said the driver likely will receive a misdemeanor citation for careless driving involving injury. Both victims were wearing helmets police said, which prevented more serious injuries.
