Walgreens Bandit Arrested

A man suspected in a series of Walgreens pharmacy robberies struck again Tuesday morning, but this is the end of the road for him.

Police tell KRDO NewsChannel 13 that they arrested the suspect, 23-year-old Anthony Craig, after a traffic stop at Dublin Blvd. and Bitterroot Dr.

Police say that employees at the Walgreens at Dublin and Union reported seeing someone who matched the description of the robber. While officers responded to that location, the Walgreens pharmacy at Rangewood and Woodmen was robbed. In both incidents, the suspect description matched the description of the serial Walgreens bandit.

Officers detained Craig shortly after that robbery.

The same pharmacy at Woodmen and Rangewood was robbed on Saturday. Craig is accused of robbing a total of six Walgreens pharmacies in about a month. A seventh robbery was previously reported to be connected to Craig, but now police say it is unrelated.

The recent robberies prompted Walgreens to install time delayed safes in Colorado and Wyoming on Tuesday morning.

The prescription drugs Craig requested during the robbery were locked in one of the new safes. He took other medication and left before police arrived.

“The pharmacist activates the time delay safe and has to wait a certain amount of time to retrieve medication,” said Mark Davis, district loss prevention manager.

Davis said the delay stalls the suspect, giving police time to arrive.

Walgreens has posted signs on the door and throughout the store advising customers of the new safe.

Davis said he hopes it will prevent robberies at Walgreens in the future.
