Guns, Real Or Fake Can Be Dangerous To Kids

Fake guns that are meant to be fun for kids to play with can be as dangerous as the real thing.

“If you were to put that (fake) gun next to the real gun, I bet nine out of 10 people could not tell which was the real gun,” said Barbra Miller of the Colorado Springs Police Department.

According to police, it really does not matter if the gun is real or fake because if it is used as a weapon and a victim perceives it as real, to police it is a real weapon.

“It’s almost a shame that they make the guns look so much like the real gun because if you have a teenager using it, to him it’s a toy, just fooling around outside,” Miller explained. However, police have to assume that every gun is real and loaded.

Fake and unloaded guns can still lead to felony weapons charge if the manor in which they are used caused others to fear they were real, according to police.
