Police Ask For Public’s Help Tracking Walgreens Robber
The Walgreens bandit struck again this weekend, hitting his sixth store in about a month, according to police.
The pharmacy at the store on Rangewood Drive and Woodmen Road was robbed Saturday afternoon. Police said, as in the prior robberies, the man handed the pharmacist a threatening note, demanding narcotics. He indicated he had a weapon, but didn’t show one. Police said the woman behind the counter recognized the robber from surveillance footage released this week.
It’s making some in the community think twice about going to Walgreens.
“It’s scary, said Melissa Ungstad. “You’d think they would catch him by now. It’s just so brazen that he keeps going in. It makes me not want to go anymore, but Walgreens is very close to where I live, so it’s convenient.”
Police said the same man has robbed the stores in the 1900 block of Chelton Road and the 3400 block of North Academy Boulevard, and has twice robbed the stores in the 5700 block Constitution Avenue and the 7300 block of Rangewood Drive.
Police said, while the robberies are all similar, they’re still unpredictable.
“Realize there are a ton of Walgreens in Colorado Springs,” said CSPD Sgt. Scott Wisler. “This individual has hit at different times of the day and it’s just really hard to have someone there at all times.”
Wisler said police are hoping for the public’s help.
“They’re our best asset in this deal,” said Wisler. “If they observe someone going into Walgreens who looks like the suspect, please all 911 immediately.”
Police said if someone knows the robber and wants to make a report, they can remain anonymous.
“Someone’s going to know him and someone’s going to suspect that he has a problem,” said CSPD Sgt. Dale Fox. “When you’re feeding an addiction your behavior is not normal.”
Police believe the robber is a thin, light-skinned ethnic man who’s about five feet seven inches tall. He has been caught on camera wearing a blue hoodie and sunglasses when he enters the store.
Call police at 444-7000 or Crime Stoppers at 634-STOP with any information.
