Suspected Teacher Poisoning

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is investigating what may be a teacher poisoned by a student. On February 15, a Janitell Junior High School teacher got concerned after drinking from her water bottle. She said it tasted unusual. After further investigation, it was determined that a student sprayed dry-erase board solution near the water bottle.

The student is out of school. Widefield District 3 has taken disciplinary action against the child who has not been identified. El Paso County Sheriff’s Investigators confirm with me that this is an active investigation. They are waiting for the results of the water bottle testing before deciding what to do next.

The teacher who we’ve chosen not to identify for her safety is back in class. We’ve learned that an assistant is helping her communicate with the children in her classes. We don’t know the full extent of her injuries.
