Jury: Farries Guilty On All Counts

Detra Farries has been found guilty in all 10 charges against her in the death of Allen Rose. An eleventh charge was dropped at some point during the trial.

Jurors deliberated for about one day before reaching a verdict Friday afternoon. Farries was convicted of charges including vehicular homicide, manslaughter, and leaving the scene of an accident–the three biggest charges against her.

Farries will be sentenced on April 20th and will be allowed to remain out on bond until her sentencing.

According to El Paso County District Attorney Dan May, Farries faces a maximum sentence of 24 years in prison. May says her sentence may increase due to enhanced sentencing.

May says that everybody who was involved in the case has been “touched forever.” He says the evidence and facts in the case were very clear, which may have contributed to the jury’s quick decision.

Prosecutors say that on Feb. 23, 2011, Farries drove off as Allen Lew Rose was preparing to tow her SUV, and he died after getting caught in a cable he had attached to her vehicle.

Farries’ attorneys had argued Farries didn’t realize Rose was being dragged.

Neither side made any comments after the verdict was read. May says he spoke to the Rose family and they believe that justice was served with this verdict. He says Rose’s family, particularly his wife, wept quietly throughout the trial as they relived painful memories of Rose’s death.

Tow truck drivers in the area will gather at Fargo’s Pizza in the 2900 block of East Platte Ave. around 7:00 p.m. Friday evening to process to the Rose Memorial Site.
