Business Doesn’t Slow For Snow In Monument

A quick-moving winter storm blasted through southern Colorado early Thursday. Strong winds and heavy snow made for difficult travel along I-25 around Monument, but that did not keep people home.

?You can see by the people in here, we still get our regulars all the time,? said Pamela Hourgan, manager of Serranos Coffee Company in Monument.

Hourgan said snowfall is not enough to deter her usual clientele from getting their morning coffee and pastries.

?A monsoon, an earthquake, road closures perhaps, right outside their driveways; it takes a lot to get them to not come in,? said Hourgan.

Hourgan said snowfall can sometimes alter when the shop will experience a high volume of business during the day, but does not usually prevent people from coming in.

?This is Monument, so we expect a lot of snowfall during the year,? Hourgan explained.

Only blocks away, another popular Monument eatery was also filling up with hungry residents.

Alice Jensen, supervisor at Rosie?s Diner, said in her experience snowy days can either result in extremely high business volume or, can lead to a suppressed business day.

Jensen despite the blustery conditions outdoors, the diner will always be filled with ?our regulars that come in no matter what.?

Many trekking around the winter wonderland that was Monument Thursday morning say these are the conditions they live in Colorado for.

?I love June, July and August ? but this is fun too,? said Jensen.
