New Accusations Against Consignment Shop Owner
A Southern Colorado consignment shop owner is facing new accusations after a Target 13 investigation.
Target 13 was contacted by several people in Durango who saw our report about Rebecca Plemons and accusations she had stolen from consignors at her Woodland Park store. They said the same thing happened at Plemon’s shop in Durango after it shut down in September.
“She sold my two necklaces and kept the money for herself,” said Kriss Nugent.
Plemons rented space to vendors at Antiques and Art On Main. She ran the cash register and was supposed to give them their earnings.
“She owes me for the month of September, an estimated $500,” said Leslie Jackson, who said she sold antiques at the store.
Another vendor, Colleen Theobald, showed Target 13 a bounced check from Plemons for almost $600. The note from the bank said the check bounced because the account had been closed.
Target 13 asked Plemons if she knew how much money she owed people in Durango.
“I really don’t,” said Plemons. “Less than a thousand I would say. No, less than $2,000, I would say.”
She said her store failed, she ran out of money and left the city with nothing. She said she never meant to rip anyone off.
“I paid everyone I possibly could and then ran out of money,” said Plemons.
Plemons also said there were only two complaints from her business in Woodland Park, Rebecca’s Antiques. She said, like in Durango, when she closed up, she tried to tell everyone. Consignor Donna Dickson called Target 13 after she was unable to get her consignment items from Plemons.
“I got the flu and I guess I forgot to call Donna, but I called everybody else,” Plemons said on Sunday.
She said Dickson’s belongings are in storage and she would get them to her by the end of the week.
Dickson’s story renewed efforts in Durango to get back what’s theirs. Initially, police had said the issues with Plemons were civil, not criminal.
“A lot of people kind of gave up, but after we saw your story on Channel 13 we kind of got renewed hope,” said Jackson.
She said she went to police and the district attorney’s office again, and now has hope they will take the case after seeing a pattern in Plemon’s actions.
Plemons told Target 13 that she plans to pay back the money she owes, but doesn’t have the cash to do that yet. She also said she’s out of the consignment business and is only selling antiques at her latest business in Lake George.
