Fort Carson Soldier Dies In Afghanistan

The Department of Defense announced Wednesday the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

Sgt. Allen R. McKenna Jr., 28, of Noble, Okla., died Feb. 21 in Kandahar province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 10th Cavalry, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colo.

Sgt. McKenna joined the Army in Sept. 2004. He joined his current unit on Fort Carson in Aug. 2011 and was a Petroleum Supply Specialist. This was his second deployment to Afghanistan.

Throughout his service, Sgt. McKenna received numerous awards and medals including two Army Commendation Medals, an Army Achievement Medal, two Army Good Conduct Medals, a National Defense Service Medal, two Afghanistan Campaign Medals with Campaign Star, a Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, a Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, an Army Service Ribbon, an Overseas Service Ribbon, two NATO Medals, a Meritorious Unit Citation, a Parachutist Badge, and a Drivers Badge.
