2 Dead In El Paso County Shooting

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office did not indicate on Tuesday night whether the deaths of a man and woman in their home was a murder-suicide, double suicide, or involved another motive.

“The scene is contained,” said EPCSO Sgt. Mike Schaller. “We’re not looking for anybody else. At this point, we don’t believe there’s anybody (else) involved.

Schaller said authorities found the bodies of a man, 29, and a woman, 27, just after 6 p.m. at 9108 Chieftain Drive. Someone had called 911 to report a shooting, he said.

Schaller said authorities took three children under the age of 10 out of the home and placed them in protective custody. He didn’t elaborate on the relationship among the adults and children, and said he wasn’t ready to provide more details.

Investigators spent much of the evening at the house and even sealed off three adjacent houses as part of the crime scene. Neighbors watched the scene, shocked and stunned by the neighborhood tragedy.

One of those neighbors is Tracy Martinez.

“We noticed that our street was blocked off,” she said, adding that she didn’t hear gunfire and wasn’t aware of trouble at the home — with one possible exception.

“We didn’t really know them that well,” said Martinez. “But we knew their kids because they’d be out playing. If it was the same couple that lived there, there was, a couple of years back, a domestic violence that had occurred.”

Schaller said he hoped to provide more details about the shooting on Wednesday.
