3 Teens Hit By School Bus In Jefferson County

According to KMGH, our ABC affiliate in Denver, three teens were hit by a school bus in Jefferson County on Tuesday afternoon.

The teens, ranging in age from 15 to 18, have been transported to St. Anthony’s Central hospital, the Colorado State Patrol said. The Colorado State Patrol says the teenagers are all in moderate condition.

The teens were in a crosswalk when the bus, which had a green light, made a left turn and struck the teens, CSP spokesman Nate Reid said.

The teens had not been passengers on the bus and the bus was empty at the time, Reid said.

A 14-year-old witness tells KMGH that a crosswalk signal gave the teens a clear to cross and she thought the bus driver saw the kids. However, she said it was possible the bus driver was sitting too high up in the driver’s seat to see them crossing in front of the bus.

She said as soon as the bus crash occurred, the bus driver did not get out of the bus. It was other drivers and people from the nearby Foothill Green strip mall who rushed out to help, she said.

She said the bus driver ?freaked out? and didn?t leave the bus to help the injured kids.

Jessi Gaydos, a bartender at Chatfield’s Sports Bar and Grill, located at Simms and West Brandt Place, told KMGH that two of the teens were talking and moving as they were being loaded into ambulances.

The bus driver has not been identified.
