Update: Inmate Who Escaped From Hospital Captured

Police have captured a suspect who escaped from a hospital where he was being treated for a gunshot wound in his leg.

22-year-old Samuel Lee Govea escaped Denver Health Medical Center on Sunday.

Denver sheriff’s Capt. Frank Gale says Govea had been shackled to his bed, but he escaped by dismantling the bed.

Media reports out of Denver say police returned Govea to the hospital Monday.

Gale says there could be a dozen patients in custody on any given weekend. Deputies are stationed in the emergency room and jail ward to keep an eye on them.

Govea was wanted on suspicion of escape, burglary, assault, menacing, criminal mischief, violating a protection order and failing to register as a sex offender.

The circumstances of his gunshot wound haven’t been released.
