Travel Is Tough On Eastern Plains

Monday morning’s snow was followed up by strong winds that resulted in road closures on Highway 24 east of Calhan.

Colorado Department of Transportation had plows working Highway 24 all morning but was unable to compete with the winds resulting in numerous stranded drivers.

Drivers like Preston Hall heading to Kansas discovered getting back for work on Tuesday would be tricky, leaving him with one option — “try to find a road map and go around it, I guess.”

By early afternoon the combination of snowplows, sunshine and lighter winds cleared the roads enough to reopen eastbound Highway 24.
