Second Week Wraps Up In Detra Farries Trial

The trial for a woman accused in the dragging death of a Springs tow truck driver wrapped up it’s second week Friday.

If Detra Farries decides to testify in her own defense, it will likely happen early next week. The prosecution rested it’s case Thursday.

It’s been almost one year since Allen Rose was dragged to death near the intersection of Platte and Murray. He was trying to tow Farries’ car at an apartment complex when she got in her car and drove away. Rose got caught in his tow cables and police said he was dragged for more than a mile.

The courtroom was packed on Friday, and some were expecting Farries to take the stand. Instead, jurors heard from the owner of J&J Towing where Rose worked who broke down crying on the stand and said he felt guilty that Rose was dead because he was supposed to do that tow.

A Colorado Springs police homicide detective who interviewed Farries the day Rose died also testified. He said it seemed like Farries didn’t know Rose had been hurt, and when she was finally told what happened, he said she put her head down and cried.

The case hinges on whether or not Farries knew what was happening when she was dragging Rose. She’s facing 11 counts, including reckless manslaughter, vehicular homicide and leaving the scene of an accident. She faces up to 24 years in prison on the most serious of those three felonies. The trial will resume Tuesday.
