Stranger Danger For Colo. Springs Girl Scout

Colorado Springs police said a man in a white work van tried to lure a Colorado Springs Girl Scout as she was selling cookies Wednesday.

It happened around 3:30 p.m. in the 1500 block of N. Foote Ave., about a block from N. Union Blvd. and Palmer Park Blvd.

The 10-year-old girl was walking to a neighbor’s house to sell cookies, according to police.

She told officers the man pulled up in a white van with the word “roofing” printed on the side in blue letters.

He told her to get into his van because her parents wanted him to bring her home.

Police said she told him no and ran back to her house. According to officers, he followed her all the way to the alley behind her house, even getting out before she ran into her house.

The child described the man as a tall white man with black hair and a goatee. She said he was about 25 years old, and was wearing a blue shirt with Spanish writing on it and blue jeans.

If anyone sees a vehicle or suspect matching the description, contact the Colorado Springs Police Department at 444-7000.

Rachelle Trujillo is the vice-president of communications for the Girl Scouts of Colorado. She said girls are never to be alone selling cookies if they are in the sixth grade or younger.

She said middle school and high school students must “buddy up” and sell together.

She said girl scouts are never supposed to sell cookies alone and that girl scout leaders hand out cookie guides to families with safety tips.
