Truth Watch: Tipton Fundraising Letter

A Congressman Scott Tipton new campaign fund raising letter is raising eyebrows. It’s about the validity of some of the statements within the letter. In the letter, the 3rd District Republican Congressman writes, “Nancy Pelosi released her top targeted races in the country and Colorado’s 3rd congressional District was at the top of the list.”

I contacted the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee or D.C.C.C. to get clarification about that statement attributed to House Minority leader Pelosi. A staffer told me that the 3rd Congressional District is on the list of 18 key races that the Democratic Congressional Campaign believes where the incumbent candidate is vulnerable and Democrat Sal Pace can win the seat. The D.C.C. says it’s a race on what’s called the Red to Blue list. The Pace-Tipton race is number four on the list only because it’s in alphabetical order by state. The D.C.C. offers financial, communications, grassroots and strategic support to those key races. The D.C.C.C. staffer also told me it’s their list, not Nancy Pelosi’s.

I called Democrat Sal Pace about his opponent’s campaign letter. Here’s what he wrote. ” It’s because of these type of partisan tactics that every KRDO viewer is disgusted with. By contrast, our campaign is built from the ground up; housands of regular Coloradans have contributed and volunteered so far, to my campaign. I know I am the underdog in this race, but we are getting traction everyday, because I understand the frustration our communities have with the current state of politics and I will work to bring practical representation to Southern Colorado”

I also reached out to Republican Scott Tipton to get a response to our truth watch. I was referred to Daniel Scarpinato with the National Republican Congressional Committee. He sent me this response, “Nancy Pelosi’s list of targeted races clearly represents her personal and delusional dream of returning to the Speaker’s Chair. Given that her message is toxic with voters, it’s no surprise that Democrats are now trying to hide her involvement and deceive your viewers. But there’s no getting around the fact that Pelosi deisgned this list herself and has been personally promoting it coast to coast in the very communities where voters have already rejected her job crushing agenda.”
