Horses Being Rescued In Yoder

Local Rescuers are trying to save 22 horses in Yoder. Some said the animals are slowly starving to death, but the horses? owner said that?s a lie.

Pat Miller at Ruby Ranch Horse Rescue is now nursing one of those horses back to health. She blames the horse owner for its malnutrition.

?I believe in my own mind that he is a hoarder. I don’t think he’s aware of good horse keeping guidelines,? said Miller.

The horse owner started with two horses, but that number quickly escalated to 22. When KRDO NewsChannel 13 arrived on the property, the owners did not want to speak on camera. Later, they changed their minds and called us. They still asked that their names not be released.

?Our horses have always been well feed. My husband spends a lot of money on their food,? said the horse owner.

She told KRDO NewsChannel 13 she?s asked for help and was denied.

?I was told your horses are too well feed. We only take horses that are underfed,? said the horse owner.

Miller said they didn?t go through the right avenues.

?We had never been contacted. That would be reasonable to contact a local horse rescue and we’re local to them,? said Miller.

Regardless, the owners said they take good care of their animals.

?My husband will not let them go hungry. I don’t know why they are saying they’re starving. Its ridiculous,? said the horse owner.

There is one thing both woman can agree on.

?Its gone beyond our control and we don’t know who to turn to,? said the horse owner.

?He’s let it get way out of hand,? said Miller.

Three local horse rescues have come together to take in some of the horses; Ruby Ranch Horse Rescue, Dreamcatchers Equine Rescue, and Triple Acres Horse Rescue

The horse rescuers plan on going back to take some more horses. They plan on taking a total of 12 horses.

We have also contacted the El Paso Sheriff?s Office. They said they are investigating the case.
