Two Robberies At Walgreens Pharmacies

Investigators are searching for robbers who targeted two Walgreens pharmacies Saturday.

The store on Constitution Avenue and Powers Boulevard in Colorado Springs was robbed at about 10:30 a.m., then the Walgreens on McLaughlin Road in Falcon was held up at 4:30 p.m.

Investigators said that in both cases, the thief was after prescription drugs, but couldn’t say if the cases were linked.

The El Paso Co. Sheriff’s Office said the robber at the Falcon Walgreens held up the pharmacy with a hand gun. Witnesses said he was wearing a ski mask and with another man. The store was shut down for several hours as investigators interviewed customers.

Garrett Tsujiuchi told KRDO Newschannel 13 that the robbers parked near his home across the street from the store.

“They parked in our court in a red sedan and walked across the street and robbed the pharmacy,” said Tsujiuchi. “And from what I heard from deputies, a Good Samaritan decided to chase them about 30 miles south from here. The suspects just turned off the main freeway and they lost them after that.”

The sheriff’s office released little information about what happened, saying only that the suspect with the gun was possibly white.

Colorado Springs police said the man who robbed the Walgreens on Constitution was alone when he approached the pharmacy. They described him as Hispanic, about 5’5, wearing a dark blue hooded sweatshirt.

“He passed a note to the clerk saying he had a gun and demanded some prescription medicine,” said CSPD Sgt. Chuck Potter.

Police said they think he’s done it before.

“We believe he’s responsible for several other pharmacy robberies in the city,” said Potter.

Many are hoping investigators find those responsible before this happens again.

“I definitely hope they get on top of it, because it’s kind of scary,” said Tsujiuchi.
