Colorado Ave. Home Hot Spot For Vandals, Trash
It has been in shambles for years, but soon a home in the 1700 block of West Colorado Avenue will be demolished.
Neighbors and nearby business owners have complained about homeless people sleeping inside and people dumping trash on the property.
In a letter to KRDO News Channel 13 a viewer said, “It’s been three years and two months since it caught fire. It’s a disgrace that nothing is done about it.”
“It could be a health problem,” said nearby business owner Rick Gardner.
Ken Lewis, Colorado Springs Code Enforcement Supervisor, said they’ve received numerous complaints about the property and have been trying to take care of the problem.
“We secured the house then people break in – and we secure it again,” he said.
Lewis explained it is a long process to tear down a condemned property including court orders and asbestos testing.
The home is expected to be demolished soon.
The city does attempt to recoup the cost for clean-up and tear-down by putting liens on the property.
