Pueblo Elementary School To Close Early

The Pueblo School District 60 Board of Education will close Spann Elementary School a year earlier than previously planned.

The Board made the decision Thursday in a special session.

It voted to close Spann Elementary School by June 30, 2012 instead of 2013.

The Board says it made the decision in order to more effectively use resources and in anticipation of additional budget cuts for next year.

Parents of Spann students will soon be given assignments to neighboring schools for the 2012-13 school year.

On January 12, the Board voted to incorporate Somerlid Elementary into the Freed Middle School building next year and then create a pre-k – 8 school at Freed beginning in the fall of 2013.
